The u16s traveled to the Toyota Sportsplex at Coal Street Park in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday to take on the Jr. Pens, the game was significant and a battle for 1st place.
This was a hard-hitting game with a lot of pace. Central Penn’s Chris Grubb (’01) opened the scoring getting the Panthers on the board just about halfway through the 1st period, the goal was set up by a nice pass from Martin “Candlestick” Zavadan (’00) who was feed by Sean Barba (’02). Zavadan added to the lead in the second with a great off-wing shot from just inside the face-off circle. Kevin Eshleman (’01) scored a power-play goal set-up from a feed from Cooper Younger (’01) on a pass from deep in the zone. The Jr. Pens would cut into the 3:0 lead with goal off an untimely change and a turn-over in the Neutral zone to make the game 3:1. In the final frame Jake “Petey” Jesberger (’01) made a nice play in the Neutral zone causing a turn over that Jacob Favilla (’00) capitalized on and and restored the 3-goal lead for CPP, and completed the scoring. Goalie Creed Goshorn (’01) had another strong game, making 16 stops and only allowing 1 goal.
