u16s Dominated play on Saturday as they played host to the playoff hopeful Delco Phantoms.
It was a very feisty first with Central Penn getting on the board in the first with a goal from Tommy Knapp (’01) off a pass from Kristin Schauren (’00).
The second period proved to be even more physical with a combination of play and goals. Just past the half-way mark of the second, Kevin Eshleman (’01) scored on a play from Evan Weaver (’00) and Chris Grubb (’01). Just over 3-minutes later Grubb scored his own goal off a face off win from Gavin Maurer (’00) on the power-play. After this goal the Phantoms called a timeout to regroup. 10-seconds later into play, Central Penn goaltender Creed Goshorn (’01) was checked by a Phantoms player setting off a major scrum in the defensive zone, including a fighting major from Mason Sottek (’00) for defending the Panther goalie.
The Panthers continued to play their style of hockey into and through the third. Eshleman scored the forth and final goal of the game from Grubb late in the period.
Goshorn (’01) was solid in net, making saves on all 26 shots that came his way en route to his league leading 13th win as well as league leading 5th shutout of the season.
With the team win on Saturday, the u16s have clinched the number 1 seed in the DVHL Playoffs.
